What is the key to good health? The key is to live as close to the way Adam and Eve lived. Their food was grains, fruits, nuts and vegetables. They lived outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine and they trusted their Creator. Their drink was water, when it got dark they went to bed.
"But I can't---!" I hear some say. When I hear words like that I am reminded of a former buddy of mine that I had in college. I once was asked to go someplace with him and I didn't want to do it. I told him that I didn't have time to do it. His response has remained with me these 30 plus years. He said, "If it were a priority for you, you would make time to do it." There I was without excuse and had to face the truth---I didn't want to do it and chose not to make it a priority. Since that day when I hear, "I can't!" I hear, "I don't want to."
"I don't want to be a vegan." "I don't want to spend some time outside in the sunshine." "I don't want to change." "I want to remain sick and tired." "I prefer being miserable." It is a choice.
So back to the basics: Eating food that is unrefined and free of chemicals and ingredients that we can't read. Whole grains---brown rice, un-pearled barley, millet, wild rice, wheat, etc. Unrefined fruits---not fruit juices, not sweetened canned stuff but real whole fruit---fresh or frozen. Unrefined fats such as avocados, salt cured olives with nothing added, raw nuts, unrefined nut milks (homemade not the boxed stuff), sesame seeds not the oils. coconuts not coconut oil, raw fresh peanuts not peanut oil, green soybeans not tofu or soy drinks----all unrefined in their natural state. A variety of green foods at lunch time---not some green drink that has been mixed with fruit which will cause fermentation, gas and indigestion. Instead of that try cabbage, okra, zucchini, spinach, broccoli, and dozens of other green foods.
Eating for supper one piece of fruit is perfect for restful sleep and is powerful for weight loss. The next morning a large breakfast of fruit, whole grains and homemade nutmilk will be converted into energy and not fat. The mind will work well, the muscles will spring into action and you will have sustained energy until noon.
Adam and Eve never counted calories, avoided carbs or worried about protein. They just enjoyed the unrefined things that God provided for them.
Drinking 16 ounces of water before breakfast, between breakfast and lunch and then again after lunch will greatly enhance your energy level and keep the body flushing out toxins and fat. Some people try to lose weight by avoiding water but drinking plenty of water actually increases weight loss rather than decrease it. Dehydration is responsible for many health problems including an increase risk of stroke and heart disease, kidney problems and other things. Water is the cheapest, safest, and best blood thinner. It requires no prescription, it has no side effects and is free. It is what Adam and Eve drank.
Adam and Eve never worked out in a gym pumping iron. They never set foot on a tread mill. They never worried about wearing a hat or getting sunburned. They never wore sunscreen (which recent studies have shown actually increase the risk of cancer rather than prevent it), their exercise was gardening---the real oldest profession. When they got tired they rested and they didn't worry about their heart rate or time their workout. The air they breathed was outdoor air that was clean and vitalized with negative ions.
The closer we come to their way of life the better our health will be. They never went on a diet and they never tried to lose weight---they just ate the grains, fruits, nut and vegetables. They enjoyed the company of the animals---the birds sang in the trees and they enjoyed their music. They had no loud noise pounding in their ears knocking their brains around.
They had no jarring alarm clock that got them up while it was still dark. They slept when it was dark and they worked in the garden when it was light. To have abundant health we should learn to enjoy the natural things around us and enjoy what was made for our benefit.
What about superfoods?
It is my conviction that every grain, fruit, nut and vegetable is a superfood. Everyone of them is useful. Some are higher in a vitamin or mineral than others but those are not to be eaten to the exclusion of all the other foods that we have been given. I firmly believe that each one has a unique ingredient that makes them a superfood and all of them should be considered as such. From what I can tell---this desire to find some superfood is based on the goal of being able to eat this one superfood and by eating that one item we can then be free to eat the garbage that out taste buds have become accustomed to. It is some wonder food that is imagined to counteract all the harmful effects of the junk. In reality it is only part of a super lifestyle and can never be a substitute for consistently healthy eating.
What about diets?
Oh my, I am so weary of all the hundreds of ways people have tried to manipulate the body into weight loss. Some of them are very dangerous and can kill you. Some are simply the same junk you have been eating with creative labeling telling you that they will help with weight loss. They give themselves names that imply that they are "healthy" or "lean" but if you check the ingredients list you would find that the list is the same as the old stuff but the portions are smaller. Or they have some chemical in them to "burn fat" or keep you from feeling hungry. A diet is something that is temporary and will always give temporary results---at best. Some of the many gimmicks only help you lose weight by relieving your pocket of the money that is in it. But in the end what has been accomplished---very little at best---or nothing at all. Eventually you tire of it and go back to the junk. What works is a permanent----PERMANENT----lifestyle change. The perfect lifestyle change is one where you are not hungry between meals (2-3 meals a day) and is one that tastes so good that you don't want to go back to the garbage that you were eating before. That is what our program is all about. The naturally high fiber, unrefined, nutritious food that we eat every day is perfect for keeping the body healthy and energetic. Try it for a month or two and see just how much better you will feel. If you REALLY try it you will feel so good that you won't want to go back to the old way of living---EVER.

More On Adictive Substances
There are some more thoughts worth adding to the last post that I want to add here.
The first one is how simple and innocent addictions get started. There are what are called Gateway Drugs but the problem has much earlier beginnings. I know that many if not most that read this will either laugh at what I say or they will be offended and want to criticize what will be said here but this is based on both science and my own experience.
One of the very first substances that could be considered a gateway drug is not just legal but hardly anyone recognizes that it is additive. But those that are honest with themselves and have had this experience will know what I'm talking about. The substance is in so many foods it boggles the mind. You can even find it in salt and frozen vegetables. It is given many names to disguise its presence. It is responsible for depression, road rage, PMS and even verbal and physical abuse of other people. It is often used in combination with other addictive substances to help the user choke down the offensive tasting substances that are also addicting. What is it? It is sugar. ---Yes sugar.
Like other addictive substances it goes by a wide variety of names. No one wants sugar listed on the label of the food they buy so companies change the name to things like: lactose, sucrose, fructose, evaporated cane juice, concentrated fruit juice, brown sugar, molasses, corn syrup, rice syrup and about a dozen other names. Another way that companies hide the amount of sugar used in their recipes is that they will split the terms used for sugar. They will put cane juice as one ingredient, sucrose as another ingredient, brown sugar as another and on and on.... If they were honest they would say that sugar makes up the large part of the list---50 percent or more in some cases. But by breaking it up they can make it appear that sugar is a very small part of the list.
Having been a sugar addict I speak from experience that it is highly addicting. If anyone doubts it just try giving it up for a month. If you find yourself impatient with people, angry at inanimate objects, surmising evil of people that have done you no harm, tired and weak most of the time then take what I'm saying seriously. If you find it impossible to stop after eating just a little of something that has sugar in it and you end up eating more than you intended to, or eat until you are very uncomfortable or out of money then you are addicted.
Well, what is wrong with being addicted to sugar? It weakens the immune system, it makes us difficult to live with and it leads to both obesity and other stronger addictions. It is the most common gateway substance.
What does it lead into? Well, the next drug of choice is all the caffeine containing substances. That includes coffee, tea (yes, tea---no matter what color but not including "caffeine free" herbal tea), cola drinks (name your favorite fizzy drink), chocolate and all those substances. So what is wrong with caffeine? Plenty more than you ever imagined. It raises the blood pressure and heart rate, short circuits the brain and nerves, depletes the body of calcium from the bones, increases the risk of cancer (the more you drink the higher the risk), causes digestive problems including heartburn, increases the risk of heart disease, causes psychological problems including anxiety and much more serious mental problems. It encourages tumor development and causes birth defects in children, including cleft palette. So why is it allowed? Because the FDA members are all drinking it while they make decisions. Addicts rarely see the problem and are willing to take action against their substance of choice. Two books I recommend reading are: The Truth About Caffeine by Marina Kushner and Caffeine Blues by Stephen Cherniske MS
Like sugar caffeine is a gateway substance that takes the user to the next level. The next level is still within the laws but is deadly. It kills hundreds of people every year. It affects everyone around the user. It is nicotine. It is responsible for hundreds of deaths every year. It kills not just users but the bystanders that have to smell it. It also affects the children of smokers. The breath of a smoking parent is toxic to an infant according to recent research and a little lady from the 1800s that was shown these things by God. Caffeine is a stimulant and nicotine is a depressant and the caffeine user finds relief from their jittery nerves in smoking a cigarette with the coffee. These two are so closely linked that the most successful stop smoking plans available will tell you that in order to succeed in giving up cigarettes the caffeine has to go too. Cigarettes increase the risk of every form of cancer as well as heart disease, stroke and a host of other diseases.
People that smoke and drink coffee are much more likely to begin the use of stronger substances because soon they need something stronger to get the euphoria that they desire. So what is next? Yes, alcohol. Just picture the bar scene----a smoke filled room (or so it used to be until waitresses demanded better working conditions) with some alcoholic substance in the hand of the smoker. Oh, they say, "Just one drink." But the body develops a tolerance for the poison and soon they "can hold their liquor"---aka. "survive the poisoning". Well, what is the harm? As long as they are doing it in their own home. Well, they don't just affect themselves. No drinker is an island. Children are affected by the parent that drinks. The smallest child has an understanding of what is normal and I have seen the effects of alcohol on a child. My husband and I tried to help a man that claimed to want to give up the alcohol. He was a single parent with two sons. The oldest one was about 6 and his brother was about 3 or 4. We went to see this man to help him get to an AA meeting and I was going to take care of his sons. When we arrived the father had a glass of "water" that didn't smell right. While the father and my husband were gone to the meeting I discovered that these two boys were so traumatized by just being around their father that the youngest would have a screaming fit if he was asked to brush his teeth. He was so accustomed to his father being out of his head from the alcohol that he didn't expect the person taking care of him to act rationally. His older brother explained the problem and told me that the best I could do is just forget the tooth brushing--which we did. It broke my heart to see these sweet children so mentally disturbed by their fathers alcohol abuse. They had no consistent human that they could rely on. They lived in expectation that their father would become an insane, stumbling, unpredictable giant that they could not control or avoid. I will never forget that night wishing I could take these dear children home with me away from this insane inebriate who thought he had everything under control. And that is what everyone that drinks thinks---I can handle it. No drunk ever says, "I'm out of control. I better not drink"
Another person we tried to help was the son of a very dear old woman. He had moved in with his mom after the death of his father so that he could take care of her. But he brought with him the bottle that he was never weaned off of. He would tell us a hundred times how he was going to give it up. He would tell us a hundred times how he "poured it down the drain" as he would stagger around and slur his words. Everyone in the room knew he was drunk but he thought he hid it. The only person that it was hidden from was himself. His mother was in very frail condition in her 80s and in need of help with meals, yard care and general things but because of his alcohol problem he was the one that was being cared for---not her. At one point we got a call that she needed help. We went to check on them and here is the story we learned about when we arrived. He had gotten so drunk that he couldn't stand up anymore and fell in the doorway from the kitchen into the rest of the house. His mother had been eating at the table in the kitchen and with her unconscious son in her way she was unable to leave the kitchen. Before we arrived he had messed in his pants and his mother helped clean him up. But he didn't have a problem! No, he could handle his liquor. Excuse me? Everyone that drinks thinks this very same thing. NO THEY CAN'T HANDLE IT---it has control of them.
Both of these men had so destroyed their brains that they could not see the facts for what they were. They were abusing their families and both of them had lost their ability to be a parent or a son.
People that drink alcohol are responsible for what they do while drunk! Oh, how can you say such a thing? They didn't know what they were doing!! Let's not judge them to harshly! They were under the influence and can't be held responsible! Right?! WRONG---VERY WRONG. They took it upon themselves to drink a substance that would render them incapable of making right decisions. They are responsible because they chose to drink and make themselves stupid. They should be held responsible for everything they do while under the influence.
Oh, but life is just so hard on them---they need something to help them deal with their problems. RIGHT? AGAIN, VERY WRONG---alcohol never solves problems. When they sober up the original problem is still there and more problems have been added to the situation. ALCOHOL is in most cases the only problem. If it were not consumed about 99 percent of the "problems" of the alcoholic would be gone. It only creates problems.
Alcohol destroys the frontal lobe of the brain---and all the brain for that matter. It dehydrates the body and destroys the liver. It is a slow poison and causes a slow and painful death. By the way, the mixture of sugar and milk (as in puddings, ice cream and etc) cause alcohol to form in the digestive tract and a person that consumes these substances can die of the same diseases as an alcoholic. I have seen it. A man I know that never touched alcohol in his life died of cirrhosis of the liver---as if he had been an alcoholic.
Alcohol like the above mentioned substances is another gateway substance which leads to the use of stronger substances. The next on the list is marijuana and after that comes cocaine and heroin. As the person takes this downhill spiral they begin losing weight, their teeth, larger portions of the brain and other organs. If you have ever seen an addict you know a little of what I'm talking about. They get to where they weigh maybe 90-100 lbs and are missing most of their teeth. That same effect that causes the teeth to fall out cause every other organ of the body to be eaten. You can see it on body scans like CAT and MRI scans---holes where body tissue should be. It might be in the brain, liver, heart, lungs, muscles, skin or other organs. Unless they stop the drug and allow the body to heal it will kill them.
The idea that drug use----or any of these gateway substances can be done in the home without it affecting anyone is a serious fallacy. It is a lie that all users would like to believe but every one of them affects the family, friends and society. No man or woman is an island.
If you dear reader use these things, or if you have a family member that is using---please pray and ask the Lord to help you. If a family member is using these things take the subject very serious and pray every day that the Lord will bring the person out of the mess they are in. Pray also that you will have wisdom to know what to do. Don't help them by giving them money---they will just use it to buy the substance. The Lord may use their poverty to help them out of the addiction. I would be happy to pray with you so let me know if you would like help. God wants His children to have freedom.

Marijuana, alcohol, caffiene and other such things
I have acquaintances that has become involved in an illegal substance---marijuana. I think they have misjudged me and perhaps think that I am unaware of what they are doing but they will soon find out different. As I have been praying about this subject and asking the Lord to give me wisdom I began studying the subject online and an article that I came across was very troubling to me. It's title is "The Teen Brain: It's Just Not Grown Up Yet" The premise of the article is that a person during the teen years will do too much damage to their brain if they use marijuana during the teen years. The more I thought about this subject the more the concept disturbed me. I began pondering these questions:
Why do people consider it okay to destroy an adult brain? Alcohol, marijuana and drugs destroy adult and teen brains but for some reason society seems to think that it is okay to trash the brain of someone over 18 (or whatever age cutoff they decide) years of age. Why? An adult needs to be able to make good decisions. Adults need to drive safely. Adults need to be good examples for their children and raise the child in a happy safe environment. There is no age when it is okay to destroy the brain!!An adult may have an important job and needs all the brain cells they have to do the job well. Would I want an airplane pilot to be flying with fewer functioning brain cells? Would I want my surgeon to operate on me impaired by marijuana? Would I want the bus driver on the street to be unable to react in an emergency because he destroyed his brain with marijuana or drugs?
Advertisers don't mind telling children that they need to be an adult before they begin using their poison because they know that children are longing to be grown-up. They know that by fostering the idea that only adults drink that the child will be prepared to do it once they "become of age". The boys grow up with the idea that to "be a man" they need to consume alcohol. But so far none of the men that I know of that have never touched alcohol lost their masculinity. In fact they are bigger men than the ones that drink. They have backbone, courage and morals that cannot be lowered to the standards of the world around them. Real men don't drink, smoke, do drugs or rely on some stimulant to make them feel better. They have a confidence and joy that a bottle or a smoke can never supply. It is weak, easily influenced humans that turn to these things---trying to find courage, strength or happiness. Perhaps the reader isn't aware of the fact that impotence and the use of these things commonly go together. A good sex life is one that doesn't include these mind altering substances. Both a healthy mind and a healthy body are important for this type of activity.
Liquor sellers declare "Happy Hour" but it is anything but happy. It might be a happy time for the seller that is taking your money but more fights are caused by these substances than anything else. If you watch some police reality show it is common to see someone full of alcohol fighting with a spouse, child, co-worker, "friend", "drinking buddy", policeman---whoever gets in their way. People that involve themselves in marijuana and other similar substances become thieves, liars and will resort to murder of their own families in some cases to get their "fix". Happy? No, they are the most miserable people around. They can't see that that substance is the reason for their problems and not the solution to the problems. The problems (broken heart, unemployment, etc) is still there when they sober up but they have added to that small temporary problem an addiction and in some cases jail time. Their problems actually get bigger by using these things. I include caffeine use in this because it affects the mind and makes it impossible to be a kind patient person under stress. Road rage is one of the direct results of caffeine use. It may be legal but that doesn't make it right.
I have a friend----who is dead now---that died about a year ago. His name was Glenn. He was the first person to welcome us to the neighborhood when we moved here. The last conversation I had with him we found out that we were the same age---53 years old. He was a chronic alcoholic. He had been a carpenter in his life and even built the two story house he was living in. But his alcohol use had rendered him incapable to finish the house. It had no insulation, no drywall, no floor other than the wood planks. His kitchen was---well the whole house was a filthy mess---and the yard because he was to wrapped up in his addiction to do anything. His life was anything but manly. The alcohol had robbed him of even an interest in the opposite sex. We tried to encourage him to give up the poison, and he expressed a desire to change but the alcohol had weakened his ability to make right decisions and his ability to understand that the medical problems he was suffering were the results of his drinking that he was unable to change. His death was slow and painful for him. He looked 30 years older than he was and he and I both were amazed when we realized that we were the same age. When we first met he was still driving and had a nice truck that a family member had bought him but it didn't take long that his license was taken from him and he sold his truck for money to buy liquor. He had liver problems, multiple surgeries, cancer treatments---more health problems than I can call to mind at the moment.
I have another friend who keeps trying to win the battle with marijuana. He used to use other drugs but is so far unable to make a permanent reform. He is physically ruined. His teeth are gone, his body is wasted and his mind is often confused. He seems to have a confusion about what is real and what is not. His understanding of deep thinking is gone. It is sad and I keep hoping that he will make a full commitment to reform but it is a very sad fact that it would take over a year of being away from these substances for him to be fully recovered. I don't know if it will ever happen. He has some paranoia and often thinks that people are against him. When he is home in his little camper he watches out the window. Sometimes he thinks that he can read peoples minds and takes these thoughts as reality.
Another friend I had many years ago when I worked as an Occupational Therapy practitioner is Jimmy. He was in his early 20s when he became my patient. His young body was twisted. His hands frozen into a tight fist, his feet frozen in place pointing down. His arms were drawn in with elbows and wrists flexed. His legs permanently bent at the knees. What caused this contorted young man to be in this condition? Alcohol. He wasn't a statistic that anyone counts when they evaluate the effects of alcohol in society. He wasn't dead so he is not considered when the danger of drinking and driving are studied. He often had a message that he wanted me to give the world. That message was always given to me with every ounce of his being. His body would shake with emotion as he would say, "Tell them---don't drink!! It isn't worth it!!" He was living a life of total dependance on everyone around him. His bent frozen joints were the results of the injury to his brain that now tells his muscles to tighten up. He is unable to open his hands or straighten his arms or legs. He couldn't walk, feed himself or go to the bathroom without someone's help. His life is constant pain from having to wear splints that will keep his hands as far open as is possible. This blog and a future video that I have in mind to do are to fulfill his request to tell the world---anyone that will hear Jimmy----please, DON'T DRINK.
Some people reading this might think that it is okay to drink as long as we don't drive but if you could see what happens to a person after years of drinking you will see that it really isn't worth it. I have seen patients with Delirium Tremens which is one of the many results of alcohol use. Please don't do that to yourself. God has something so much better. God can give you the ability to deal with problems without these substances, if you ask him to help.
This blog is just a small part of this subject that has been on my heart. Please reader---consider the fact that all these health benefits that people promote are an illusion created by the ones that are selling these poisons. The benefits claimed of wine are from the grapes that it was derived from. The health benefits claimed by marijuana is an illusion and is not true. God loves you and He never intended for you to become a slave to these things. He is offering you freedom.
Drugs
I have a book titled Worse Pills Best Pills. It is produced by a group of medical professionals that go by the name Public Citizen's Health Research Group. It has a lot of very valuable information about the leading cause of death in this country---prescription drugs. It has been very helpful in our home to help us better understand this very serious topic. It is frequently updated and re-published because information on the danger is constantly changing and the medical industry is seeing more and more that drugs are not the answer.
My favorite author on health says: "drugs never cure disease, they only change the form of the disease." This change is called side effects.
In this book they say: "...Drug-induced illness is one of the leading causes of preventable disease and death in the United States". They also quote The Journal Of The American Medical Association which says that adverse drug reactions are responsible for 100,000 fatalities a year and afflict 2.2 million people with serious drug-induced diseases. This is not talking about overdosing, suicide or mistakes made by someone (pharmacist, physician, caregiver or the patient) but it is talking primarily about correct dosage taken as prescribed.
Now this version of the book was written in 1988 so those figures are much higher. However I would like to add my two cents worth to those figures. I believe that the problem is exponentially greater. Why? Because so many people that I have known personally who have died, died from prescription drugs that were taken as prescribed. But their death certificate states that the death was caused by something else. The death certificate details the symptoms or the physical manifestation of what the drug did to the person but it doesn't list the root cause of the death. Here are some instances from people I personally knew or know. 1. A fearful and timid woman who believed her doctor when he put her on blood pressure drugs. She always had a high blood pressure when in his office but not at home when her son took the BP reading. She was put on several drugs all of which gave her serious reactions and the drugs were always being changed until she died of heart failure. 2. Another woman that was diagnosed with breast cancer didn't die from breast cancer but she died from a heart attack that was caused by the radiation treatment destroying her heart. 3. A woman who made serious lifestyle changes was told that "she will always need the drugs" but her blood pressure at home was normal because of the lifestyle changes. She began feeling faint when she would try to stand up and would sometimes pass out. She wanted to be off the drugs and felt that she didn't need them but took them anyway because she was told that she would "always need them". 4. A man that UNKNOWINGLY was taking quinine in a homeopathic dose for 3-5 years died of congestive heart failure. He was recommended these homeopathic pills by a HEALTH FOOD STORE OWNER. Quinine destroys the heart and he should never have taken it for the leg cramps. A good diet would have taken care of that. 5. A friend of mine is currently dying of congestive heart failure from a drug he was given at the VA hospital. 6. Another friend of mine is also showing symptoms of having congestive heart failure from taking Coumedin a few years ago. His feet are swelling, he is having fainting spells and every time he sees a doctor they either add another drug or switch him to another. He wants to be off the drugs but takes them anyway.
Consistently my experience has been that the people that don't visit doctors and don't take drugs live the longest. I don't know if the damage is reversible but it sure isn't safe to continue their use.

Advertising and Science
So often I have come across people that have been disappointed with some method or gimmick that is suppose to make their lives better. They spend a lot of money on maybe a water treatment machine that is suppose to make them thin and beautiful. Some diet plan that will "melt away the pounds" is bought and they don't look any different months later. They spend money on exercise machines, balls, mats, etc and those things sit in their closets or attic gathering dust.
When I lost weight it wasn't because I joined a gym, began some painful exercise program or bought some water treatment machine. All I did is I quit animal products and free fats like olive oil. One doctor I have watched, Dr. McDougall has a saying that is so true. He says "the fat you eat is the fat you wear." If we eat animal fat or refined plant fats we will be....ummmm.....too big.
Some of that fat is hidden and not easy to recognize, such as tofu. But once the substance is refined (like with oils), oxidized or damaged (like with roasted nuts) it becomes a problem. In our youtube channel it is our goal to teach people how to change all that.
Now I'm not saying that exercise isn't important but the exercise should be outside, in the fresh air and sunshine. It should be comfortable and pleasant, such as a long walk with the dog. In fact dogs make the best exercise partners. They are ready when you are. They will let you know when it is time and they will put a guilt trip on you if you don't. They also take the attention off of self. So now that you know, go for a walk. :)
